  • Ride In One Of The World's First Self Driving Trucks (HBO)

Self-driving cars may be on their way, but a driverless truck has already arrived. Self-driving truck company Otto completed its first delivery in October, a 120-mile journey through Denver traffic with no one behind the wheel. In August, Uber bought Otto for $680 million. Morgan Stanley estimates that self-driving trucks could save the trucking industry $168 billion a year, and about $70 billion of that would come from labor savings. About 3.5 million Americans work in trucking, one of the last well-paying fields available to people without a college education. Self-driving technology could soon replace some of those workers. Self-driving trucks are expected to take over highways sooner than self-driving cars because highway driving is an easier technological challenge to solve. “There...

In San Francisco, for one day, there was an Uber Self Driving Car. Red light laws, unfortunately, still apply to it, and the uber autonomous car was caught driving through a red light, again, on the first day. California DMV officials have demanded the Uber self driving cars be taken off the roads until the company acquires the proper petition (which Google, Tesla, and GM self-driving cars already have). The company knows that its driverless cars will likely be a ripe target for scammers looking to sue Google, but its hoping that can be prevented by the array of cameras recording the vehicles every move. As Sebsatian Thru, the original inventor of Google's driverless cars, told the New York Times, "...the big losers are going to be the trial lawyers."

Trademark BMW exterior. BMW Self Driving Car Materials of the future. From driver to Ultimate Driver – BMW Self Driving Car through digital intelligence. In the future, BMW drivers will still want to spend most of the time they are in their car at the wheel. In the BMW VISION NEXT 100 BMW Self Driving Car, the driver will remain firmly in the focus, with constant connectivity, digital intelligence and state-of-the-art technologies available for support. But that’s not all: the BMW VISION NEXT 100 will turn the driver into the Ultimate Driver. So even though the world may well be changing, Sheer Driving Pleasure is here to stay – and will be more intense than ever before even in the BMW Self Driving Car. In designing the BMW VISION NEXT 100, the starting point was the interior of the BMW Self Driving Car. In the years ahead, the driver’s wellbeing will become increasingly important, and rather than merely feeling they are in a machine that drives itself, they should sense that they are sitting in one that was specifically designed for them. This idea gave rise to an architecture in which the BMW Self Driving Car cab seems particularly spacious compared with the overall size of the vehicle while retaining the typical exterior lines of a BMW. Despite its domed BMW Self Driving Car interior, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 retains the instantly recognisable athletic silhouette of a BMW saloon. The design of the BMW Self Driving Car interior permits various modes of operation: Boost mode, in which the driver is at the controls, and Ease mode, in which the driver can sit back and let the BMW Self Driving Car take over. In Ease, the BMW Self Driving Car becomes a place of retreat with plenty of space, agreeable lighting and a comfortable atmosphere. In Boost, the driver takes over and benefits from the subtle and intuitive support offered by the vehicle. All the time, the BMW Self Driving Car is learning more and more about the person at the wheel, thanks to its sensory and digital intelligence, which the BMW Group calls the Companion. The BMW Self Driving Car Companion progressively learns to offer the right kind of support to transform the driver into the Ultimate Driver. A very important element of the Vision BMW Self Driving Car is another innovation known as Alive Geometry, the likes of which have never before been seen in a car. It consists of a kind of three-dimensional sculpture that works both inside and outside the vehicle. An autonomous car, also known as a driverless car, self-driving car and robotic car, is an automated or autonomous vehicle capable of fulfilling the main transportation capabilities of a traditional car. As an autonomous vehicle / Self Driving Car, it is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. Robotic cars exist mainly as prototypes and demonstration systems. Self Driving Cars / Autonomous vehicles sense their surroundings with such techniques as radar, lidar, GPS, and computer vision. Advanced control systems interpret sensory information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage.[6][7] By definition, autonomous vehicles are capable of updating their maps based on sensory input, allowing the vehicles to keep track of their position. Some demonstrative systems, precursory to autonomous cars, date back to the 1920s and 30s. The first self-sufficient (and therefore, truly autonomous) cars appeared in the 1980s, with Carnegie Mellon University's Navlab and ALV projects in 1984 and Mercedes-Benz and Bundeswehr University Munich's EUREKA Prometheus Project in 1987. Since then, numerous major companies and research organizations have developed working prototype autonomous vehicles. Development of fully autonomous vehicles is well underway 1 in 3 UK motorists would already consider buying an self driving car Bosch can supply all the required components for autonomous vehicles Bosch already provides high-performance assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Predictive Emergency Braking System. This most natural and sensual of materials is combined with wool to create a beautifully textured, ivory-coloured luxurious throne upon which our passengers are conveyed in the Rolls-Royce Vision Interior, and from which they command. A final sensual touchpoint within the Rolls-Royce Vision Interior cabin is the finest one-off deep-pile ivory wool carpet woven especially in London, which our Rolls-Royce Vision Interior passengers can enjoy as they luxuriate in the ample space created by the removal of the chauffeur. This sense of Rolls-Royce Vision Interior space is accentuated as our passengers’ view from their seats is uninterrupted by a cockpit or steering wheel which are now superfluous. From their powerful position within the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 interior, “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”. Should they choose to drop their eyes from that world stage for a moment and ask ‘Eleanor’ for visual cues, she will provide them on the transparent OLED screen that dominates the front wall of the Rolls-Royce Vision Interior cabin. Here our passengers can view information regarding their journey, their destination and the people they are expecting to meet. Or they may simply choose to retreat from the outside world and be entertained by their favourite show for a while as they relax in the Rolls-Royce Vision Interior. Or they may just contemplate the finely crafted analogue clock that hovers in a central position above the screen, which serves both as a reminder of Sir Henry Royce’s humble beginnings as an electrical pioneer making electric dynamos, and of time as the ultimate luxury in the Rolls-Royce Vision Interior. “Rolls-Royce design today is the epitome of elegance,” Taylor comments, “and this elegance is achieved through simplicity of design under which lies the technology that makes our patrons experience effortless.” The Grand Arrival Certain truths are constant over time. One of these truths is how the powerful have always understood the symbols through which they express their standing. From the lavish chariots of the Roman Emperors to the individually hand built state carriages and cars of Monarchy – such as the coachbuilt Rolls-Royce Phantom IV used during Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation – such fine vehicles have been designed to project the importance of the individual inside to those waiting outside of the Rolls-Royce Interior. Waiting with bated breath for a grand arrival, the crowds were never anything but impressed by the stately arrival of their idol. In the future, Rolls-Royce believes that its powerful patrons will wish to continue projecting their power and status in such a manner. This truth is reflected in the most dramatic aspect of the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 interior – its iconic, imposing and futuristic presence which ensures a Grand Arrival for its occupants. Yet whilst it powerfully expresses the future of luxury, it remains constant to the iconic tropes of any true Rolls-Royce: The Spirit of Ecstasy, the Pantheon grille, the long bonnet and the iconic proportions of the entire vehicle. The Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 Rolls-Royce intimately understands its patrons and their likely desires and motivations in the future. The Rolls-Royce Vision designers therefore distilled four key tenets that not only underpin the elegant solution that is the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100, but epitomise the future of luxury mobility as a whole: • The Rolls-Royce Personal Vision • The Rolls-Royce Effortless Journey • The Rolls-Royce Grand Sanctuary • The Rolls-Royce Grand Arrival The Personal Rolls-Royce Vision. In the spirit of the great coachbuilt cars of the past, Rolls-Royce will create the chassis of the future, hand-built from the most advanced materials and powered by a zero emissions powertrain. The Rolls-Royce Vision future customer will commission his or her own concept. Grand Sanctuary and the Rolls-Royce Vision Grand Arrival. The next three tenets and hallmarks of the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100. “There’s hopefully no pedestrians, there’s no stop lights, it’s easier to automate or have a self-driving vehicle on the highway most of the day,” Otto co-founder Lior Ron told VICE News correspondent Ravi Somaiya in Denver. Otto trucks use a variety of sensors to read the road to decide when to accelerate, steer, or hit the brakes. Otto claims its technology is likely much safer than a human driver. Otto is still testing its trucks, but it expects to sell a kit for tens of thousands of dollars to make any truck drive itself. Filup Molina explains the story and whether or not this delay matters. The ground-breaking BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car mobility experience, served up in customary BMW style, starts even before the driver steps on board the vehicle. BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car Users can connect up to the underlying digital platform not only in their BMW but anywhere they want, on a variety of devices such as smartphones, smartwatches or via Amazon Echo with integrated voice assistant. Based on BMW Connected and the BMW Open Mobility Cloud, this platform is already up and running worldwide. Using a wide range of digital services, BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car / BMW Connected adapts to the personal mobility needs of users, helping to get them to their destination with a minimum of stress. At CES 2017 BMW showed examples of BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car / future new digital services which will draw on the potential of BMW automated driving to create an enhanced mobility experience and to help drivers plan their everyday lives more efficiently. As increased levels of BMW Self Driving Car automation relieve drivers of more and more driving tasks, BMW Connected will assist drivers in using this freed- up time efficiently and help make all time spent on board is as rewarding as possible. BMW will be staging a demonstration of BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car motorway driving in a prototype based on the new 2017 BMW 5 Series Sedan. BMW 5 Series 2017 Self Driving Car owners no longer need to operate the accelerator or brake pedal and can also take their hands off the steering wheel, allowing them to concentrate on other activities instead. An extra BMW onboard computer continuously cross-checks the vehicle’s position and data about its surroundings against a highly detailed digital roadmap, resulting in very accurate lane-keeping. While their BMW is in automated driving mode, it is up to drivers how they spend their time. They can, for example, take advantage of the opportunity to look more closely at their surroundings. The BMW connected driving experience in vehicles of the future will be assisted by innovative control functions such as a further-improved version of BMW gesture control, which made its world debut in the new 2018 BMW 7 Series and is now also available in the new 2018 BMW 5 Series. The BMW Augmented Gesture Control system will allow the driver and front passenger to point at buildings on either side of the road using thumb gestures and receive corresponding location-based information from the BMW Open Mobility Cloud. Such a simple gesture is all it takes to call up say, details of a casino entertainment programme for that particular day, and display the information in the Control Display. This intelligent connectivity can also go a step further still, allowing tickets to be booked online from the vehicle. BMW’s pioneering advances in the areas of automated driving, intelligent connectivity and control and display systems are closely interconnected. The company offers highly innovative systems and technologies in all these areas. Examples include the BMW driver assistance systems available for the BMW current model range, the BMW Connected digital mobility companion and intuitive and flexible control and display systems such as the Head-Up Display, BMW iDrive, voice control and BMW gesture control. Such technologies provide an ideal platform for innovations aimed at delivering a futuristic mobility experience defined by hallmark BMW characteristics.

New BMW iNext Autonomous Brand / Level 5 Self Driving Car / New BMW 7 Series Autonomous Car Arrives 2021 Watch in UltraHD + SUBSCRIBE #CARJAMTV CARJAM TV - Subscribe Here Now https://www.youtube.com/user/CarjamRadio/videos For The World's Best Car Videos Website: http://www.carjamtv.com The BMW Vision Next 100 is a visionary self driving BMW. The BMW Group has in the meantime gone one step further: as a result of its acquisition of a stake in HERE in 2014 and it collaborations with Intel, Mobileye (since 2016) and other partners, the BMW Group has given the go-ahead for developing the BMW iNext for series production. BMW Driver assistance systems (level 2) and BMW automated/autonomous driving (levels 3 to 5) Self Driving Car Level 2 (today): Driver assistance systems as preliminary stage of automated driving. The driver is responsible for the task of driving at all times (hands-on detection). Self Driving Car Level 3 (starting from 2021 with BMW iNext): Once level 3 is reached, it will be possible for driver and vehicle to share the responsibility for controlling the vehicle for the first time. During highly automated driving in traffic that is moving in the same direction and is segregated from oncoming traffic, the driver will be able to perform secondary in-vehicle activities for longer periods of time or relax (eyes off). They must still be in a position to take over the task of driving again within a reasonable amount of time (a few seconds) when prompted to by the system. Self Driving Car Level 4 (starting from 2021 with technical provisos, BMW iNext): Fully automated driving in urban traffic and – in a version with extended functionality – in traffic that is moving in the same direction and is segregated from oncoming traffic. The driver can sleep during long- distance journeys if necessary. The key difference compared to Self Driving Car level 3: the time span for taking over control again is far longer (mind off). Self Driving Car Level 5 (developments in parallel to levels 3 and 4 probably possible post-2020 in the form of pilot projects): Autonomous driving, steering wheel and pedals no longer absolutely necessary, passengers sit in the vehicle without any involvement in the task of driving; driving licence not required (driver off). Assuming the vehicle is fitted with pedals and a steering wheel, the driver may take over the task of driving if they wish but will never be obliged to do so. It is conceivable that the first self-driving vehicles will be brought out alongside highly automated vehicles in the period between 2020 and 2030. It is expected that the first pilot projects with autonomous vehicles will be launched in selected city centres during the course of this decade. Giving a definite date for when Self Driving Cars could happen would be pure speculation, however. So, highly automated vehicles will appear on motorways initially, while autonomous vehicles will start off in city centers as part of pilot projects launched in parallel. A total of 40 new BMW 7 Series autonomous test vehicles for highly and fully automated driving on motorways and in urban environments will be built in 2017 and trials started. These vehicles will be put into operation at Intel (USA), Mobileye (Israel) and BMW Group (Munich) facilities. By developing these new BMW 7 Series advanced prototypes collaboratively, the partners will ensure the timely roll out of the BMW Group's first highly- automated series vehicle (level 3) – the BMW iNext, due in 2021. BMW iNext is the BMW Group's first venture into highly-automated driving. From a technical perspective, the BMW iNext will also be capable of level 4 and 5 highly automated operation.

In ten years' time, Self Driving Truck s could be driving autonomously on motorways. Transport efficiency will increase, traffic will be safer for all road users, and fuel consumption and CO2 emissions will be further reduced. To do this Mercedes Self Driving Truck connects existing assistance systems with enhanced sensors to the "Highway Pilot" system. Mercedes Self Driving Truck / Autonomous driving is already possible at realistic speeds and in realistic motorway traffic situations. The Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 provides a glimpse of the future shape of trucks. The Mercedes Self Driving Truck technology of tomorrow is already reality at Daimler Trucks. The Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 constitutes a revolution in efficiency, safety and networking, a revolution for road traffic and its infrastructure, for professional driving and for the road transport sector. This is not a new truck, but rather the key element in the interconnected transport system of the future. Mercedes Self Driving Truck is being developed as part of the "Shaping Future Transportation" initiative by Daimler Trucks to conserve resources and reduce emissions of all kinds. Other aims for Mercedes Self Driving Truck are to ensure the highest possible level of traffic safety and to boost networking with intelligent data management considerably for tailor-made vehicle and service solutions. The prototype demonstrated the exciting capabilities of the Future Truck 2025 back in the summer at speeds of up to 80 km/h in realistic traffic situations on a section of the A14 motorway in Magdeburg, Germany. Now the thrilling exterior and interior of that same vehicle are being revealed. The tractor unit combined with an aerodynamically optimised trailer celebrates its world premiere as a study at the International Commercial Vehicles show (IAA). The technology behind this exciting façade is no less impressive. The Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 is not, for instance, part of a platoon. It does not need to be daisy-chained to other vehicles either. Radar sensors and camera technology enable the Future Truck to drive autonomously, independently of other vehicles or central control stations. Its technical features are thus crucial in giving the Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 its outstanding capabilities as an autonomous vehicle. For Mercedes-Benz the culmination of this is the highly intelligent "Highway Pilot" system, which resembles the autopilot on an aircraft. A radar sensor in the lower area of the front end scans the road ahead at long and short range. The front radar sensor has a range of 250 m and scans an 18-degree segment. The short-range sensor has a range of 70 m and scans a 130-degree segment. The radar sensor is the basis for the proximity control and emergency braking safety systems already available today. A stereo camera installed above the instrument support behind the windscreen keeps the area ahead of the vehicle in view. This is currently the location of a mono-camera if optional Lane Keeping Assist is ordered. The range of the stereo camera is 100 m, and it scans an area of 45 degrees horizontally and 27 degrees vertically. The stereo camera of the Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 identifies single- or two-lane roads, pedestrians, moving and stationary objects, all objects within the monitored area and also the road surface. The camera recognises everything that contrasts with the background, and is therefore also able to measure clearances precisely. The front stereo camera also registers the information on traffic signs. In addition to object and distance recognition, the stereo camera recognises lane markings as a major function for autonomous lane guidance. The road surface to the left and right of the truck is monitored by radar sensors installed in the sides. They are located on the left and right, ahead of the tractor unit's rear axle. The sensors have a range of 60 m and cover an angle of 170 degrees in the longitudinal direction. For Mercedes-Benz, the planned introduction of Blind Spot Assist over the next few years is a major step paving the way for the Future Mercedes Self Driving Truck and underlines Mercedes-Benz's role in pioneering maximum road safety.

This spring, Google is introducing the self-driving bicycle in Amsterdam, the world’s premier cycling city. The Dutch cycle more than any other nation in the world, almost 900 kilometres per year per person, amounting to over 15 billion kilometres annually. The self-driving bicycle enables safe navigation through the city for Amsterdam residents, and furthers Google’s ambition to improve urban mobility with technology. Google Netherlands takes enormous pride in the fact that a Dutch team worked on this innovation that will have great impact in their home country. Find out how this project was created in this 'making of' video: https://youtu.be/6gOjRqlgk_Y
